#COMMUNITYPOWERED: BELD CELEBRATES PUBLIC POWER WEEK

Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD) will celebrate Public Power Week October 7 through 13, along with 2,000 utilities that collectively provide electricity on a not-for-profit basis to more than 49 million Americans, while giving back to the communities they serve.

Senior Breakfast at Department of Elder AffairsThe Department will kick off this annual event with the popular Senior Breakfast Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Department of Elder Affairs (71 Cleveland Ave.), in partnership with the Braintree Rotary Club. A BELD representative will give an overview of what’s new at the Light Department, and employees will distribute freebies to diners. Two seatings will be available, 8 and 9:30 a.m.—please call 781.848.1963 to make your reservation.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, BELD will host its annual customer appreciation event at the Braintree Farmers Market, 9 a.m.– 1 p.m. at Braintree Town Hall (1 J.F.K. Memorial Dr.). In addition to providing information on electric and broadband services, BELD employees will talk about our partnership with Braintree Drives Electric, a town initiative designed to help residents take full advantage of all the benefits of driving electric vehicles.

Taste of the Market basket.Market-goers can pick up giveaways, plus Braintree residents can bring the raffle ticket that was with their September electric bills to enter the drawing for a “Taste of the Market” basket, full of fresh items from market vendors.

BELD staff will also hand out towels at the eleventh Annual Senior Walk for Health and Fitness, Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Pond Meadow Park. The walk kicks off at 10 a.m. from the Weymouth side parking lot off Summer Street.

Public Power Week is celebrated in conjunction with the American Public Power Association (APPA) in Washington, D.C.  APPA is the service organization for community- and state-owned electric utilities. For more than 125 years, BELD has been a nonprofit public power utility owned and operated by the citizens of Braintree. BELD Broadband has offered high-speed Internet, cable television and phone service to Braintree residents and businesses.
