BELD Customers can now pre-apply for 0% Interest Energy Efficiency Loans

BELD is excited to share that Braintree residents can now submit a
pre-application for the new Massachusetts Municipal Light Plant (MLP) Zero-Interest Energy Efficiency Loan Program, offering 0% financing up to $25,000 for qualifying home upgrades.

Through this program, BELD customers may be eligible to receive 0% financing for up to $25,000 on qualifying home energy improvements, including:

  • Weatherization and insulation upgrades
  • Heat pump installations
  • Energy efficiency and electrification measures

This program is offered by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) and supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s State Energy Program Energy Efficiency Revolving Loan Fund.

Why this matters for BELD customers

Until recently, only Mass Save® customers (served by investor-owned utilities) could access low- or no-interest loans for energy efficiency projects. Now, customers of municipal light departments across Massachusetts—including BELD— can take advantage of similar benefits.

This is great news for Braintree homeowners who want to make their homes more comfortable, efficient, and environmentally friendly while saving money over time.

How to get started

  • Complete the Pre-Application:
Visit the Massachusetts Municipal Light Plant Zero-Interest Energy Efficiency Loan page to fill out the pre-application form. This pre-application helps determine interest and eligibility. The full loan program is expected to officially launch in March/April 2026.

  • Get a Home Energy Assessment:
Qualifying upgrades require an energy assessment and installation of recommended measures.

  • Work with a Participating Lender:
Once approved, loans are issued by private lenders, and interest is paid by DOER using federal and state funds.

Important notes

  • Funding is limited and subject to availability.

  • Participation and approval are based on credit, bank eligibility, and program conditions.

For questions about the program, you can reach out to Sheila Comstock at sheila.comstock@mass.gov, or contact BELD’s Energy Efficiency team for local guidance.

Together, we can make Braintree homes greener and more energy-efficient — one project at a time.
